The new London South Bank University Legal Advice Clinic is now open to the public, and can assist clients with completing Disability Living Allowance forms.

The Clinic is a free drop-in service 5 minutes’ walk from Elephant & Castle staffed by LSBU Student Volunteers under the supervision of practising solicitors.

• provide basic information on any topic
• provide generalist advice in welfare benefits, consumer issues, employment, family and housing
• direct to appropriate local advice and legal services
• provide specialist legal advice in family and housing

The Clinic is located at Caxton House, 13-16 Borough Road, Southwark SE1 0AA.

Public drop-in sessions take place on Wed 11am-2pm and Thurs 2pm-5pm during term-time only (28 Sept-15 Dec 2011; 31 Jan-10 May 2012).

They have particular expertise in making DLA applications for clients with complex physical and mental health needs. Clients who would like a DLA form appointment can drop in (if you arrive at the start of the session, and with all the relevant paperwork, you may be seen that day – otherwise you will be offered an appointment), or can phone or email (please note that normally they respond to email or voicemail messages during opening hours on Wed and Thurs).

The Council has started a consultation about the re-commissioning of domiciliary care and community support services. The current contract for domiciliary and home care services is ending and the Council wants to make sure that the new service is provided in a way that best suits the needs of service users and those who provide care and support to them.

The consultation includes home care services provided to all groups and includes the service we provide through Lambeth Mencap’s Community Support Service.

The Council wants to hear what people who use or may need to use these services think about the current service and what changes or improvements they would like to see.  The Council will then develop the specification based on the feedback they receive.  It is therefore very important that as many people as possible give their views, ideas and suggestions.

The Council has recently sent out consultation documents to service users who are likely to be affected by the changes so anybody who is receiving these services, including people who are supported by our Community Support Service, should have received them.  If you have not received the documents you can get these by:
